Social media use is growing all the time, with social networks and blogs accounting for almost 23% of the time spent on the internet in the UK (an increase of 159% over the past three years). - Social networks now receive more UK internet visits than search engines, with 11.88% of UK internet visits in May 2010 made to social networks (and Facebook 55% of those visits) compared to 11.33% to search engines
- The growing use of the mobile internet, apps and location-based services like Foursquare and Gowalla has increased the importance of social media to companies with venues
- Social networking (on Facebook) accounted for nearly half of all the time people in the UK spent going online using their mobiles in May 2010. Over 16 million access the internet from their mobile phones every month
