IT ROCKS UP NORTH...
What do Bryan Ferry, Sting, Lewis Carroll and Kate Adie have in common...? They all hail from the North East corner of England, where Rockliffe Hall, the most exciting new hotel resort in the UK, has just opened. |
Rockliffe Hall is set on a former 18th century 375 acre hunting and shooting estate on the banks of the River Tees outside the village of Hurworth, on the borders of County Durham and North Yorkshire. The estate’s 19th century hall, created at the height of the Victorian Gothic revival, has now been transformed into a 61-room hotel with a stunning spa overlooking private gardens and an 18-hole championship golf course.
Kenny Atkinson, the culinary ambassador for the North East, has just taken up the role of head chef at Rockliffe Hall and Kenny Atkinson at the Orangery will open in February 2010, where he will be using fresh, local produce. Atkinson shot to fame in early 2009 with his winning performance on the BBC’s Great British Menu.
The Spa at Rockliffe Hall will be one of the largest in the UK . It will offer an extensive range of health and beauty programmes including a Sleep Retreat in its chromatherapy suites, holistic treatments using the UK’s organic spa brand Ila, beauty treatments using Comfort Zone and Nordic Walking in the Yorkshire Dales.
Managing director Nick Holmes says, “Five years of work have come together to open a resort that will become a destination in its own right. With the superb team we have on board and excellent facilities we have created, I know that every aspect of the Rockliffe Hall experience will rival that offered by any other luxury resort hotel in the UK.”
Go now to take advantage of Rockliffe Hall’s opening rate valid until 31 January 2010 at £190 per room per night including breakfast. Rockliffe Hall will formally open on 1 February 2010 when the overnight rate will start from £270 per room per night including breakfast. Prices are based on double occupancy and include VAT. For further information and reservations go to www.rockliffehall.com / enquiries@rockliffehall.com / 01325 729 999.
Rockliffe Hall is steeped in the history of the North of England. It was originally the home of Alfred Backhouse, the family behind the Stockton & Darlington Railway, who then went onto co-found Barclays Bank. In the 1860s Backhouse commissioned leading architect Alfred Waterhouse to create the house and re-landscape the grounds of Rockliffe Hall . Waterhouse is perhaps most famous for his designs for London’s Natural History Museum and Manchester Town Hall. A true Victorian himself, Backhouse was an ardent horticulturalist, and planted many rare specimens of trees which still stand in the grounds of Rockliffe Hall today.
